“The role of Libraries during special conditions”
During the extraordinary circumstances imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, both in our country and worldwide, Academic Libraries are obliged to meet these new extensive challenges, adapting their functions, as well the way the Pan-Hellenic Conference of Academic Libraries it is held to this new reality.
Therefore, it is necessary for the event of the annual Pan-Hellenic Conference of Academic Libraries to be adjusted accordingly and finally attempt to be conducted in a digital environment for the first time. The fact that this is the most important event concerning Greek Academic Libraries is confirmed both by the high participation and its constant presence, throughout the years. These extraordinary circumstances will not prevent the holding of the Conference, which has managed to be held consistently despite the financial difficulties faced by the Academic Institutions and consequently their libraries. Following this precedent, the conference will be carried out thanks to the persistence of the staff of Academic Institutions, which reflects the particularly important role of the Conference within the library community.
The Conference is known to cover sectors of information services and technologies, automation and library equipment, information resources and subscriptions. Considering that nowadays is more critical than ever to further automate library services, to build up new ones, while the already existing services are being improved, utilizing all the possibilities provided by the new digital age, the dominant thematic unit of the 26th Congress will evolve around these trends. Academic Libraries are called to use all types of appropriate technologies aiming to benefit their users and further upgrade their digital infrastructure. All of the above, as well as many more, will be presented at PALC26.
